Microblading & Eyebrow Feathering

Manual artistry creating hair-like precision strokes for naturally beautiful brows

The Art of Microblading Perfection

Microblading, also known as Eyebrow Feathering, is a sophisticated semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique used to create fuller, natural-looking eyebrows. This precision artistry involves the use of a specialized handheld microblade to manually draw delicate hair-like strokes.

Each meticulously crafted stroke is designed to blend seamlessly with your existing eyebrow hairs, enhancing the overall appearance of your brows while creating a realistic and beautifully defined shape. Unlike traditional eyebrow tattooing, microblading deposits pigment into the superficial layers of the skin, creating fine, crisp strokes that truly mimic the appearance of natural brow hair.

Microblading is perfect for anyone wanting to enhance their natural brows, whether you have thin, over-plucked, or patchy eyebrows, or if you've experienced hair loss due to age, health conditions, or over-styling. Available at our Richmond and Springvale studios, serving Melbourne's inner east and southeast communities.

The Microblading Procedure

A meticulous, personalized process ensuring beautiful, natural-looking results

First Appointment (2-3 hours)

  1. Consultation: Thorough discussion about your desired brow shape, thickness, and color. Medical history review to ensure you're a good candidate.
  2. Design & Mapping: Using specialized tools, we'll measure and map your ideal brow shape, taking into account your natural bone structure, facial features, and symmetry. You'll approve the design before we proceed.
  3. Color Selection: Perfect pigment shade that complements your skin tone, hair color, and personal preference.
  4. Numbing: Premium topical anesthetic applied and continuously reapplied throughout the entire procedure for maximum comfort—many clients are so relaxed they fall asleep.
  5. Microblading Application: Using our specialized hand tool, we'll create precise, hair-like strokes that deposit pigment into the superficial layers of your skin.
  6. Aftercare Instructions: Detailed aftercare instructions and specialized healing balm provided to ensure optimal results.

Healing Period (4-6 weeks)

  • Days 1-3: Brows appear darker and more defined than the final result
  • Days 4-7: Possible flaking and scabbing as the skin heals
  • Days 7-14: Color may appear lighter as new skin forms
  • Weeks 2-4: True color gradually develops as the pigment settles

Perfection Visit (6-8 weeks after initial)

This critical follow-up session allows us to:

  • Assess how your skin has retained the pigment
  • Fill in any areas that may need more definition
  • Make adjustments to perfect the shape and density
  • Ensure symmetry and overall natural appearance

Important: The perfection visit is crucial for achieving the best possible results. While it may not be necessary for everyone, we strongly recommend this session for most clients to ensure perfection.

Understanding Microblading: The Technical Details

The artistry and science behind natural-looking hair strokes

The Microblade Tool

Microblading uses a specialized hand tool with a disposable blade consisting of 7-21 ultra-fine needles arranged in a sloped or U-shaped configuration. Unlike tattoo machines that puncture skin rapidly, the microblade is drawn manually across the skin in precise, controlled strokes. This manual technique allows artists to create incredibly fine, crisp lines that closely mimic the natural direction and texture of real eyebrow hairs.

The needles are typically 0.18mm-0.25mm in diameter—thinner than a human hair. Different blade configurations create different stroke effects: U-blades create curved strokes ideal for the brow arch, while sloped blades excel at creating tapered, natural-looking hair ends. Professional artists select blade types based on your natural hair growth pattern and desired result.

Skin Depth & Pigment Placement

Microblading deposits pigment into the upper dermis layer of skin, approximately 0.5-1mm deep. This is shallower than traditional body tattoos (which reach 2-3mm into the dermis), which is why microblading fades over time rather than lasting permanently. The epidermis (outer skin layer) naturally regenerates every 28-40 days, gradually pushing some pigment out as new skin cells form.

This precise depth placement is crucial: too shallow and the pigment fades within weeks; too deep and strokes blur, spread, or turn ashy/blue over time. This is why artist skill and experience matter enormously—consistent depth control throughout every stroke ensures crisp, long-lasting results that heal beautifully.

Premium Pigment Quality

We use premium pigments from a world-leading manufacturer with over 30 years of expertise in permanent cosmetics. Our pigments are cruelty-free (PETA certified), vegan, and EU REACH compliant—rigorously tested according to EU Guidelines (ResAP 2008) which screen for over 93 potentially harmful substances including carcinogenic compounds, heavy metals, and skin allergens.

Our iron oxide-based formulations are specifically designed without carbon black—the ingredient responsible for the dreaded blue-gray color shift that occurs with inferior pigments as they age. The result is exceptional color stability: your brows heal true-to-color and fade naturally to soft, warm tones rather than turning ashy or muddy.

Our pigments work beautifully across all skin types, including melanin-rich skin tones where they heal without ashing or fading to unwanted tones. Every shade is custom-blended considering your natural undertones, hair color, and individual skin chemistry for results that look naturally yours.

Why Skin Type Matters

Oily skin: Produces more sebum, which can cause strokes to spread slightly and fade faster (typically 12-15 months). The oil can also make it harder for pigment to "hold" during the procedure. For very oily skin, we may recommend nano brows or ombré brows instead.

Normal/dry skin: Ideal for microblading. Strokes heal crisp and defined, retaining their shape beautifully for 18-24 months. Dry skin holds pigment exceptionally well.

Mature skin: Thinner skin requires a more delicate approach with lighter pressure. Results can be excellent but may need more frequent touch-ups. We adjust technique specifically for mature skin to ensure beautiful, natural-looking results.

Microblading Aftercare Guide

Proper aftercare is essential for achieving optimal results

Immediate Aftercare (First 24 Hours)

  • Keep the area completely dry
  • Avoid touching the treated area except for necessary aftercare
  • Sleep with your face up to avoid pressure on your brows
  • Avoid exercise, swimming, and excessive sweating

Days 2-7 (Critical Healing Period)

  • Apply a thin layer of the provided aftercare balm with clean fingers 2-3 times per day
  • Do not pick, scratch or rub the treated area – let scabs fall off naturally
  • Avoid makeup on the brow area until fully healed
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming pools
  • Avoid strenuous exercise that causes excessive sweating
  • Do not use facial scrubs, peels, or anti-aging products around the brow area

Long-Term Care (After Healing)

  • Apply sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) to the brow area when exposed to direct sunlight
  • Avoid chemical treatments directly on the brow area (including glycolic acid, retinol)
  • Minimize oil-based products around the brow area
  • Schedule regular touch-ups every 12-18 months to maintain your results

Important: During the healing process, your brows will appear 30-40% darker initially. Around days 3-5, flaking may occur. The true color will develop over 4-6 weeks. If you experience any unusual redness, swelling, or signs of infection, please contact us immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

With our continuous numbing protocol, most clients experience minimal to no discomfort. We apply premium topical numbing cream before the procedure AND continuously reapply throughout the entire session—not just at the start like many other studios. This comprehensive approach means most clients rate their comfort level at 1-2 out of 10, and many are so relaxed they actually fall asleep during their appointment. The sensation is typically described as light pressure rather than pain.

The healing process takes approximately 10-14 days. Initially, your brows will appear 30-40% darker and more defined than the final result. During the first week, you may experience some flaking and scabbing as the skin heals. It's essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided. After healing, the color will soften, and the strokes will appear more natural. A touch-up session 6-8 weeks later ensures the best results.

Microblading typically lasts between 12 to 24 months, depending on individual factors like skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine. Clients with oily skin may experience faster fading. We recommend a touch-up every 12-18 months to keep your brows looking fresh and defined.

Microblading is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes (unless well-controlled), have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring, are using Accutane (must be off for at least 6 months), are undergoing chemotherapy, have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, have extremely oily skin, or have active skin conditions in the brow area. During your consultation, we'll discuss your medical history to determine if microblading is right for you.

For optimal results, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and painkillers (except Tylenol) for 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid blood thinners like aspirin, vitamin E, and fish oil supplements for 48 hours before (if medically safe). Avoid chemical peels, Botox, or other facial treatments for 2-3 weeks before. Come with clean brows, without makeup. Avoid eyebrow threading, waxing, or tinting for at least one week before.

Microblading and Eyebrow Feathering are terms often used interchangeably in Australia and refer to the same process of applying semi-permanent pigment using a microblade. Both techniques focus on creating thin, hair-like strokes that blend seamlessly with your natural eyebrows, maintaining a natural look.

Microblading uses a manual hand tool to create fine, hair-like strokes, resulting in a natural appearance. Machine brows or powder brows use a digital machine to implant pigment, creating a softer, shaded effect similar to brow powder makeup. Powder brows typically last longer than microblading and may be better for oily skin but provide a more filled-in look rather than the defined hair strokes of microblading.
